Help Trico fight FIP
Trico was diagnosed fip on 27.01.23. Help us help him.
Fip is a dangerous and rare mutatation of the coronavirus for cats which has a 99% death rate. Without treatment our only choice was to watch him suffer till the end or euthanise him before that time. But with lots of help and welcoming arms we found treatment. Because the treatment is still so new and not yet researched enough it's still not registered as medicine in our country, meaning vets are not allowed to give it out to people yet. The treatment consists of one syringe shot everyday for 84days (3months), followed by 3months of checkups to see that the virus doesn't come back. (Picture below: Medicine, needles and syringes bought in for his treatment that we started 28/01/23)
We're not ready to give up on Trico, and while euthanasia isnt the wrong choice for everyone it is for us. Trico was born 06.03.22. We want him to experience a long good life, and so does his sister and bestfriend Ouija. We started treatment 28th january and he's taking it like a champ. While we (me and my partner who both own and care for Trico) both don't enjoy asking anyone for money, no matter who it is.. We need help. We didn't expect these news to ever hit us. We already have someone that wants to help us pay as much as they can for the medicine (2000€). But with 5 blood tests in between treatment, each 200€ we still need help. The total cost of the blood tests we need will be no more than 1000€. Every donation is greatly appreciated. If we in any way receive more money than what we asked for it will go straight to the payment of the medicine.
It has been the biggest challenge taking syringe shots into our own lovely cat Trico. We experience anxiety, stress and I shiver everytime I'm about to do it. But we do it for him to have a better chance in this world. It would be a huge help to not have the stress of the future paychecks weighing on our shoulders too.
More information on Trico's diagnosis and treatment
A lot of people still think fip is a death sentence with no available treatment today. But there is treatment, in which have been successful many times. It is not registered as cat medicine in most countries yet as it is still being researched. Our vet could only tell us of our choices, which was either euthanasia or treatment, but they couldn't prescribe it to us. Trico has wet fip but it most likely used to be dry fip as the two of them often go together. Although wet fip often progress faster than dry fip, it is also the most often cureable of the two. Trico has fluid in his abdomen, a quite noticeable change in size of his two kidneys, lack of energy and most likely used to have puking and diarrhoea too (i say most likely because we dont know for sure fip is what caused this). The treatment is the GS-441524 treatment, you can find more information on Kampen mot fip (facebook group for nordics) and on (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1098612X19825701?fbclid=IwAR3zH2xaEl6dPFFv7krNz6TBd1lXyXj21jGZ9rxPWYsK1RAWXKJl8dvml4M). All the files with treatment faq are all collected in the facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/kampen.mot.FIP/?ref=share) mentioned above, as well statistics.
