Our vision is to establish a mosque that transcends ethnic, national, regional, cultural, and sectarian boundaries. During 2024 – 25, mosque is in dire need of 25 million Kr (2.5 million USD) & work would be stopped if we unable to generate this amount.

Background of the Project:

Approximately 10,000 Muslims from 90+ nationalities are living in Trondheim, Norway, yet the city lacks a sizable (Jamia) mosque. Most of the Muslim residents are hailing from refugee backgrounds. Most of Muslim students attending the Norwegian University of Science & Technology are members of our community. Additionally, the Muslim business community in the city is rather limited.

Mosque resides in four-story "National Heritage Declared class A" building which was constructed in 1760. Muslim Society Trondheim (www.msit.no) purchased this building in 2003. Currently, only ground floor (600 sq-m) is operational which is very limited for diversified activities of the mosque. The remaining 3 floors (1600 sq-m) are almost broken and remain unused. During Friday prayer, people used to stand at the entrance and corridors. The mosque also hosts a weekend Islamic school offering education in Arabic, Norwegian, and English languages, with over 250 children enrolled. However, the area is inadequate for accommodating this number of students, resulting in many children leaving the school. Annually, over 4000 students from schools, colleges and university visited the mosque and got information about Islam.

Alhamdulillah, the "Rehabilitation and Renovation" work for the entire building has commenced. Between 2021 - 23, MSiT invested approximately 20 million kr. in the 'Mosque Rehabilitation and Renovation' project. The estimated total cost for the complete renovation of the building is around 50 million kr (equivalent to 5 million USD), with a tentative duration of 5 years. During 2024 – 25, MSiT is in dire need of 25 million Kr (2.5 million USD).

*Regarding Zakat to masajid, Imam Fakhar al-Din Razi, Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradawi, Syed Maududi, Molana Ishaq and European council of Fatwa & Research have in strong opinion that Zakat or portion of it can be given for construction of masajid particularly in non-Muslim countries. However, if someone is not agreed with their opinion, Zakat can be used for that part of the construction of Islamic Center which will be used for Islamic School and for Dawa purposes.
