Help Rowan Cover Vet Bills for Arnold After His Serious Injury
On January 1st, 2026, Arnold got loose and was tragically hit by Bybanen, Bergen’s city light rail/tram. He was later picked up by the police and placed in a kennel overnight, which unfortunately added an additional 4,500 NOK (~$470 / £350) in costs.
The impact broke Arnold’s tail in two places, and he later developed a serious skin infection as a result of the injury. Since the accident, Arnold has been in significant pain and is still at risk of losing his tail.
So far, the cost of Arnold’s treatment has already reached over 22,000 NOK (~$2,300 / £1,700).
(*Here is Arnold in his makeshift sick bed since he felt too unwell to risk knocking his tail on his walled dog bed or through jumping on the sofa)
Rowan recently completed their PhD and is currently receiving AAP (disability support) due to ongoing health issues. At the moment, their rent alone takes up around 70% of their income, leaving very little room for unexpected expenses.
To afford Arnold’s emergency medical care, Rowan had to borrow money from incredibly kind friends and colleagues who stepped in to help during the first difficult days after the accident. Arnold has not had medical insurance during this time because Rowan has been without a stable salary. Even the lowest monthly insurance costs would have made it impossible for Rowan to cover basic living expenses.
All funds raised through Spleis will go directly toward Arnold’s care. This includes repaying the people who helped cover the urgent initial treatments, as well as paying for the upcoming medical costs — including the possible tail amputation surgery (15,000 NOK / ~$1,580 / ~£1,160) if it becomes necessary. Approximate additional costs include medication (4,500 NOK / ~$470 / ~£350) and future vet visits (5,000 NOK / ~$525 / ~£385).
Arnold loves his life and he brings happiness to everyone he meets. He is a kind, loving, and wonderful dog. Anything you can donate will help him get the best possible care to live his life to the fullest and begin to enjoy running around in the mountains and playing with his friends again.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support. ❤️
