Mohammed skriver selv om målet med turen:
Amplify Palestinian Voices: Help fund Mohammed's trip to Scandinavia
My name is Mohammed Othman. I’ve dedicated my life’s work to Palestine and to the youth of Palestine. I have served as a community organizer with the Stop the Wall campaign, worked as a tour guide in the occupied West Bank for historical figures like President Jimmy Carter, and I am the founder and Executive Director of SkateQilya.
I have been invited by Friends of Skateqilya Sweden and Skateqilya Norway on a speaking tour in Scandinavia to share the story of SkateQilya and the reality of life for young people in the West Bank. I am raising funds to cover travel, accommodation, and basic logistics so I can accept these invitations and bring these stories to an international audience.
SkateQilya is a youth empowerment program that uses skateboarding and art to teach community building and leadership skills to Palestinian girls and boys.
In 2016, I co-founded SkateQilya with two friends: Kenny Reed, a retired American professional skateboarder, and Adam Abel, an American artist.
We started as a free summer camp, and today we operate as a year-round educational program—the first co-ed athletic program in the northern West Bank.
Together we built more than a skatepark. Through skateboarding, photography, conversational English, and leadership training, we teach values of mutual respect, trust, and shared responsibility. We aren't just teaching kids how to ride a board; we are creating visionary leaders for Palestine’s future and for a better world.
I have been invited to speak in Sweden, Denmark, and Norway to share the voice of SkateQilya. I want to share how we use skateboarding to break down barriers between genders and build confidence.
The youth in the West Bank face almost insurmountable pressures – restricted movement, military checkpoints, and limited access to resources.
The whole region is now under fire from a devastating war, but the hardships in Palestine under military occupation have been going on much longer. It is all the youth of Palestine know.
SkateQilya provides a release valve, a training ground and a place where the youth can envision a different future.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Together, we can amplify the stories that need to be heard.
