Refugee 4 Refugees are building a school and activity centre in Deir ezZor, Syria and we urgently need support!

We are creating a safe space for the children, where kids can just be kids, with games and activities in a safe and friendly environment. There will be child care for the little ones and a school to give the children an education and a chance for a better future.

The reason is simple; every child in Syria over the age of eighteen months are born into war and they are all now growing up in the aftermath of it, with poverty and desperation. This project will not only give the children a taste of childhood and a better future, but also hope to the families and the whole community. 

Deir ezZor is heavily damaged by the war, 80% of the city was in ruins, including many of the schools. Many children do not have a school to go to and the numbers are increased by the many refugees returning home. The area was recently affected by the dramatic flooding of the Eufrates, our project was thankfully not damaged, but the living conditions for the people got even worse, increasing the urgency of getting things started. The children have no schooling and absolutely no safe places to play.

We are a grassroot organisation, we only ask for small donations and we do not use donations for marketing or other administrational purposes, every last cent goes directly to the project. Sharing is therefore crucial for us to reach our goal and get the project started. We ask you kindly to share, whether you can donate or not. 

Refugee 4 Refugees was founded in 2017 on Lesvos in Greece by the young Syrian refugee, Omar Alshakal. He is now in Syria, on the ground in the field as always, and not in a nice office far away, but working alongside the workers and living under harsh conditions himself. He runs the organisation, leads the work, works harder than averyone else, but is in fact a volunteer and does not make a living out of humanitarian work. He has to provide for himself in other ways, which is extremely much harder in Syria than it was in Greece, but he is still going strong and the syrians are hardworking people, so the only thing they need help with from the outside world is the funding.

R4R is all about: HUMANITY - DIGNITY - EMPOWERMENT 

Everything is done by Syrians, everything is bought locally at Syrian prices, which makes it very cost efficient but also has a huge positive impact on the community. But they desperately need help with financing the project.

R4R has always had a special focus on games and activities for children. The first picture is from Greece, refugee kids playing football with local Greek kids, the project is ran by local organisations but the football field was built by Omar and R4R, many years ago. The second picture is Omar himself, playing football with Norwegian school children, but also a refugee playing with local kids in Norway, where he visited only a few years ago, when there was still war in Syria.

These Syrian children are searching for food in a dumpster, and eating what they find. They would most certainly much rather play football and get an education. They can't do anything about it, but you can by donating to and sharing this fundraiser. Please do!
