ABOUT FRIDAWN and our project:
Dear friends, humans, people of all walks of life,
We are a small group of volunteers in Oslo dedicated to creating art pieces that deal with the different experiences that are a result of hate crimes, discrimination, and misunderstanding.
We are hoping to produce a video piece documenting the events that took place in 2019 where drag queen, Frida Marida, received several death threats/threats of violence after performing publically. Inspired by Frida's experience with the police and konfliktrådet (where she and the main perpetrator sat down and discussed the crime), we plan on exhibiting this video on a tour through Norway with Skeiv Verden and open up a nationwide discussion.
The video above is an event is an example of the material we plan on sharing through the country. Frida performed and then spoke with a panel of academics and professionals about the complexities of discrimination and effects of Islamophobia on both sides of the street.
THE VIDEO:
"Kjærlighetsvisa" by Halvdan Sivertsen is the inspiration for creating a re-arrangement of the piece with oriental flavors. All of us greatly appreciate his work and have been moved by his music. We would like to pay tribute to Sivertsen and his career by using it as an important part of this production. Because it is not our goal to point fingers and lay blame, but to create a feeling of understanding and openness, while reminding everyone that we are all simply just people.
And that:
+ Norway is a place of acceptance and that threats and violence are not acceptable
+ The authorities are there to protect the rights of every person. There is help.
+ Disagreements and opposing beliefs are natural, but all can be debated in a civil and respectful manner
This funding will help us produce the music for this film. It is our hope that by creating this and sharing it with others, we can help prevent such crimes from happening again.
