Help Fjord CleanUP Overcome Legal Costs and Find a New Cleaning/Sauna Base in Central Oslo!

Help Fjord CleanUP Overcome Legal Costs and Continue Working to Keep Oslofjord Clean and its Residents Healthy.
Fjord CleanUP has removed more than 150 tonnes of waste from Oslofjord and Akerselva River—restoring life to the fjord, protecting marine wildlife, and creating a healthier city for everyone. We have also been nominamed 3-years in a row for Oslos Environmental Prize by Bymiljøtaten.
But right now, we’re facing our biggest setback yet...
After a legal dispute with Hav Eiendom over access to the waterfront, Oslo District Court has ordered us to pay 150,000 NOK in legal costs—money that would otherwise go to cleanups, community events, and new marine habitats. Read more about the case here.
This is not all. To keep our mission alive, we urgently need funding to:
- Pay the court-ordered fine and related legal fees.
- Cover the lawyers fees to defend us against Hav Eiendom from furhter costs, who are actually trying to sue us for over 250.000NOK.
- Cover architect costs for applying to secure a new central cleaning base and sauna location—so volunteers have a place to warm up and regroup after year round weekly cleanups.
Every hour and krone spent on this dispute is time taken away from what matters most: cleaning and restoring Oslofjord to life. Since being stamped on and squeezed out of central Oslo, we have not been able to clean in our usual rubbish hotspots: Bjørvika, Akerselva and Aker Brygge. We see the rubbish piling up in central Oslo but since the only base we now have is in Lysaker, for the past months since leaving central Oslo, we have only been cleaning the marinas around Bygdøy.
If we can’t raise these funds, our ability to operate will continue to be severely limited, and Oslo risks losing an independent, volunteer-powered cleanup force.
With your help, we can turn this around.
Together, we can:
- Resolve this legal setback once and for all.
- Secure a new location to keep our cleanups running through all seasons in Central Oslo.
- Focus our energy and resources where they belong—protecting, cleaning, and restoring our fjord all the while creating a health focused and inclusive communtiy on the waterfront.
Our goal: 250,000 NOK to cover the fine, legal costs, and architect fees.
Every contribution makes a difference. Please donate today and share this campaign so we can keep Oslofjord clean, healthy, and thriving.
Thank you for standing with us. And thanks to some of Oslos local Politcians for standing with us and asking the right questions "is it really ethical or democratic that a government-owned property giant takes a small non-profit to court in this manner?" - read more here.
