Unfortunately, even though we have removed absolutely everything from Bjørvika, Hav Eiendom still insists on suing us for 150,000 NOK—despite the fact that they are not even using the area.
They never needed to access the site immediately for any next stage of construction. The arguments they used in court, claiming they were losing money by not being able to access the waterfront, were simply not true.
As a powerful government-owned company, Hav Eiendom had more than enough time, resources, and capacity not only to help us move out but to assist us in finding a new suitable location. Instead, out of what can only be described as spite, they blocked us at every turn.
This is why some courageous politicians in Oslo are now asking the right questions: Is this really how a government-owned company should behave? - read more here.
We think it goes further. Maybe the question should be: Does Oslo even need a government-backed corporation like Hav Eiendom in the first place? What is the point, when agencies like Statsbygg already manage public property?
It seems strange that Oslo Kommune owns a commercial property giant that acts directly against the city’s own environmental goals and shows no concern for the needs of ordinary people. Isn’t the role of government to act in a more ethical and humanitarian way—not as a cutthroat corporate bully?
We believe these are valid questions that deserve much deeper scrutiny. Perhaps it isn’t Fjord CleanUP that should be forced to shut down—maybe it’s time to ask whether Hav Eiendom’s existence serves the public interest at all.
Enough talk. Let’s clean.
