Imagine, my Norwegian mother living day and night inside a tent without feeling safe for even a moment. You wake up to the sound of aircraft above you, and you go to sleep to the very same sounds. Warplanes fly overhead, launching missiles and shells from time to time; Apache helicopters open fire occasionally, and drones attack tents and homes, bombing and destroying them.
And there you are, inside this simple tent that is supposed to be a place of shelter, yet every moment becomes a wait for what might happen next. Every sudden sound makes you flinch, and every explosion makes you wonder whether you are next. You cannot sleep properly, you cannot think, and you cannot even feel at ease for a single moment.
Even when the bombardment becomes quieter for a while, the fear remains, because you know that at any moment another explosion could come. You live watching the sky, listening carefully to every sound, trying to remain strong in front of your family while, inside, your nerves are slowly breaking down.
This is not just a passing day,
It is an entire life we are living inside a tent, day and night, surrounded by the sounds of aircraft, explosions, and constant fear. The noise eats away at your nerves, and the fear tears at your exhausted soul. At the end of each day, all you hope for is simply to make it through another day without losing someone you love.
